We proudly joined the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and other development partners to celebrate World Food Day in Magburaka, Tonkolili District, under the theme “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.” As a partner of Welthungerhilfe (WHH), we participated alongside other WHH partners in the World Food Day exhibition, showcasing the agricultural potential of rural communities and the importance of strengthening local food production.

Project Manager, Mr John Y. Tarawalie,

Through our RAB Moyamba District Project, implemented in partnership WellFound Sierra Leone through Welthungerhilfe Sierra Leone with funds from Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ), we supported our local farmers from Moyamba District to exhibit their agricultural produce, including groundnuts, rice, pineapples and other farm products. Their participation provided an opportunity to showcase their hard work, promote locally produced food, and highlight the importance of creating stronger market linkages for smallholder farmers.

The celebration brought together His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, First Lady Dr Fatima Maada Bio, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Henry Musa Kpaka, representatives of ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders. Our RAB Project Manager, Mr John Y. Tarawalie, and members of the project team also participated in the event.

We were particularly delighted when His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio visited our exhibition booth, where he met our rural farmers and viewed the agricultural produce they had brought from Moyamba District. His visit provided an important opportunity to bring the efforts and contributions of our farmers into the national conversation on food security, agricultural productivity, and rural livelihoods.

For us at SiLNoRF, food security begins with empowering farmers and strengthening the local food systems that sustain our communities. We believe that farmers, particularly rural women and smallholder producers, need access to appropriate agricultural knowledge, productive resources, secure land rights, and reliable markets to increase their production and improve their livelihoods.

Through our RAB Moyamba District Project, we remain committed to working with our partners and farming communities to strengthen agricultural productivity, improve access to markets, increase household incomes, and contribute to reducing hunger among poor rural populations. As we commemorate World Food Day, we reaffirm our commitment to a Sierra Leone where local farmers are supported, local food production is strengthened, and everyone can access safe, sufficient, and nutritious food.

At SiLNoRF, we believe that empowering our farmers today is an investment in a food-secure tomorrow.
